Not sure if water polo is right for you?

Eligible athletes must be comfortable practicing in the deep end throughout practice, must be able to tread water, and able to swim freestyle with ease.

Water polo experience is not required, however athletes must be able to practice at the team pace as we are in the fourth quarter of our competitive year (August - July).  If you think your child can meet these criteria, email sanclementewaterpoloclub@gmail.com to let us know you are interested.

Once registered, first time athletes can practice "risk-free" for one week. If it is not a good fit for any reason and you do not continue on the team, we will refund you in full.

To register for an age-group team:

Step One:  Sign up for a Free Trial Membership at USA Water Polo.

One week before you plan to attend, you must register for a “free trial” membership with USA Water Polo. This is mandatory for insurance.  Select "San Clemente Water Polo (CA-35384)" for your practice location.  Your member number is required for SCWP registration in Step #2.

If you are having trouble with your USAWP membership, click here to view a visual step by step guide.

Step Two:  Register with SCWP to get in our system and on the roster.

There are NO DROP-INS or trials before registering.  All minors must be insured and in our system before getting in the pool.

Practice fees are due with registration.  First time athletes to the club can come "risk-free" for one week. If it is not a good fit for any reason and you do not continue on the team, we will refund you in full.  Refunds are only available after one week of practice for first time members.  Otherwise, all fees are non-refundable and non-cancelable.  New members will start on the White team and may be moved as space allows and they develop.

Registration will auto-assign athletes to a 24/25 age-group based on their birthdate:

10U:  Born 8/2/14 – 12/1/16

12U:  Born 8/2/12 – 8/1/14

14U:  Born 8/2/10 – 8/1/12

16U/18U:  Born 8/2/06 – 8/1/10

  • General schedules can be found on Team Pages.
  • Practice schedules and locations are subject to change. TeamSnap is the only source of up-to-date schedule information.  Check it before every practice.
  • We are aligned with the CAPO Unified school calendar.  As a rule, if CAPO doesn't have school then we don't have practice.
  • SCWP is an annual program with annual resources.  For financial convenience, 10U-14U teams are billed in four installments; 16/18U teams are billed in three installments.
  • We do not prorate fees for seasonal differences or missed practices. It is assumed that all athletes will miss practices over the course of the year for various reasons including vacation, illness, injury, other sports, camps/events, etc.
  • All fees are non-refundable and non-cancelable for any reason including injury.  Should you want fee protection, insurance can be purchased during registration.
  • Quarterly installment fees are for practice only.  Uniforms, games, and tournaments are not included and incur separate charges.
  • Fees assume days off for holidays, pool maintenance, events/conflicts, weather, and rest/breaks.
  • Registration does not guarantee an athlete a spot on a specific team or with a specific coach. Coaches assign athletes to rosters based on what they determine is in the best interest/fit of the teams.  On occasion, a coach may move an athlete to a different team for a better fit.

Step Three:  Download the free TeamSnap app to your mobile device.

TeamSnap is mandatory for all club members and how you will access schedules, invoices and communications - from the club, coach and teammates.  Once you register, you will receive a notice to join the team.  You must accept the invitation to have access to team information.

Family members who want access to roster information must be added to the athlete's profile. This can be done during registration, or via the athlete’s roster profile on the app.  Turn notifications on to receive coach requests, invoices and schedule changes on time.

Step Four:  Review Club Policies and codes of conduct.

Athletes are expected to understand and follow SCWP and USAWP codes of conduct at all times.  Parents are responsible for on deck supervision before and after practice.  Athletes that disrupt any practice in session may be sent home.

Step Five:  Come for a week; then confirm continuation with the coach.

Check TeamSnap to confirm the practice schedule for the day.  Come in a sport swimsuit.  Bring a towel, goggles, and swim cap if you have long hair.

During the trial period, parents may stay to watch practice quietly.  Athletes wear caps over their ears while moving in water and sound bounces off water/surfaces dramatically making it difficult to hear.  Please do not create background noise or distraction that coaches must yell over.  All conversations, phone calls and gatherings must be taken outside of the practice area.  Minors/siblings must stay with a parent at all times.

If it is a good fit:

If after a week, you and the coach agree it is a good fit, you must log into USA Water Polo to upgrade to a "Silver" membership to remain insured and eligible to continue.

If it is not a good fit:

If you do not wish to continue or if the coach determines it is not a good fit for the team at this time, email sanclementewaterpoloclub@gmail.com to receive a refund.  Refunds will only be given after one week to new members of the club.
